The Gillen House has expanded into the wedding business.
Edward Toledano and Cynzia Sanchez, co-owners of the bed and breakfast in Maxeys, can now host weddings and other events.
“Our hope was to sustain the property and keep things going steadily,” Toledano said. “We did find once we opened the business that it's more of a weekend business with seasons, so we wanted to expand into weddings and events because we feel like it would make the business more whole with the bed and breakfast offerings combined with weddings and events.”
The project began in the spring of 2020, but was halted during COVID-19, and the rezoning was finalized two months ago.
The Gillen House’s first wedding was held last spring, when Toledano and Sanchez hosted a wedding for her daughter.
“That was a real good test for us to run through the process and do everything, and so we had a great time.” Toledano said.
The 2-acre property can accommodate over 100 people for outside weddings, and the house sleeps eight. The events range from weddings, to weekend trips, birthdays, work parties and more.
Various packages are offered for weddings, and events are customizable, depending on wants and needs.
Toledano and Sanchez are in the process of renovating parts of the property to make an optimal stay for their guests, including a new bar area in the outbuilding — for guests who bring their own alcohol — that will be available for events this spring.
“We believe that that's a good fit for folks, and quite honestly so many people that have visited us said straight away: ‘This would be a great place to have a wedding,’ ” Toledano said.
