Editorial: County’s connections are special, run deep

My assignment from Dink NeSmith was to address the essence of family and friend relationships that are most often accentuated during the Thanksgiving holiday.  As I see it though, it’s not purely family and friendship, but also environment and circumstance that seals deep-seated relationships.

Editorial: Your voice is important

Besides voting, one of the best things a resident can do is to pay attention to what’s going on in national, state and local government. Awareness and knowledge are essential, especially in local issues. Few, if any of us, can keep up with what’s going on in Washington, D.C.

One of Oglethorpe County’s most beautiful assets is its geography. The rolling hills, the forests and the wide-open spaces are treasures. Considerable efforts — public and private — are made to be good stewards of these assets. That’s a plus. Now, take a look at this photo. That’s a negative.

Alabama, a country music group, sings “I’m in a hurry and don’t know why.”  Those lyrics could be a theme song for millions of people. But the tune doesn’t slow many folks down.  Rush, rush seems to be a way of life, especially when we are driving.
