Oglethorpe County will send 22 athletes — 11 boys and 11 girls — to the Class A Division I state track and field meet at Rome on Friday and Saturday.
The OCHS girls will try to defend their 2024 title, which was their third in four years.
“We had 11 of 13 girls qualify (Monday) and all of our relay teams, which gives us a great chance to accumulate some points,” OCHS girls coach Brianna Dickens said. “I think our girls are peaking at the right time and it’ll be interesting to see where the numbers fall this weekend.”
Qualifiers include:

The 4x400 team had the top time of 4:12.50 at the area meet on Monday.
The boys team will be represented by these athletes:

The 4x100 team had the top time of 42.94 at the area meet.
“I feel as if we have a good chance of coming home with a few top 10 finishes in individual events and good chances of coming home with top 3 finishes in the relays,” boys coach Maurice Freeman said. “Overall, as a team, we could finish anywhere in the top 20.”
Rec boys 7th, girls 11th at championships
The Oglethorpe County rec department boys track and field team was seventh with 131 points and the girls team was 11th with 69 points at the championships on April 19.
Notable performances from the boys included a fourth-place finish from 8U boys 4x100 relay team (Tevin Sintyl, Chase Turner, Ky Faust and Jordan Lumpkin) with a time of 1:12.74.
Chase Huling was third with a time of 15:41 in the 100-meter dash, placing third in the 9-10 age group. Huling was third in the long jump with a jump of 11-2. Brother Callen Huling was fifth with a 10-11 jump.
Timothy Cheesborough won the javelin with a throw of 46-9.50 meters.
Harrison Ditty was third with a new personal record of 57-6 meters and a spot in the Top 50 Georgia javelin throw ranking for the age group. Jordan Turner was fourth with a throw of 55-10 meters.
Sixth-grader Kieron Shaw was second in the third shot put heat, setting a personal record of 25-4.50 meters.
Brielle Jones was first in the 9-10 age group standing triple jump with a distance of 6-6.
SaRiyah Lumpkin was third with a 10-9.50 foot jump in the 9-10 age group long jump.
Leah Mowen was fourth with her 31-6.25-meter javelin throw for a spot in the Georgia Outdoor Javelin top 25 for the 11-12 age group.
Kortni Foote was third in the 13-14 age group 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.78.
Meara Shaw was third in the second heat of the 800-meter dash, running a 3:15.13.
