Sports Roundup: Six OCHS football players are first-team all-region

Six members of the Oglethorpe County football team were selected to the Region 8-A Division I first team.

 

Offensive lineman Brock Barrett, tight end Tanner Mckie, defensive lineman O’Maury Huggs, linebacker Jackson Tatum, defensive back Clint Graham and kicker Braxton Edmonson earned first-team honors.

 

The second team included running back Paris Crowder, offensive lineman Isaiah Hood, linebacker Keagan Moats and defensive back Nicah Pass.

 

Quarterback Caden Hartrum, offensive lineman Coleton Sexton, linebacker Dalton Hilley and defensive back Rico Howard were honorable mention.

 

The Patriots finished 6-5 and advanced to the first round of the Class A Division I playoffs this fall.

 

Mckie places second at Archer tourney

 

Oglethorpe County wrestler Tanner Mckie finished second in his weight class at the 20-team Archer Thanksgiving Invitational last Wednesday. 

 

In addition, freshman wrestler Walker Compton was third, and juniors Paris Crowder and Christian Harris were fourth in their weight classes. Junior Luke Holbrooks won both of his matches.

 

“We are doing some good things, just trying to get healthy and put our full lineup on the mat,” coach Steve Mason said. “Once we do that, we can develop some competitive consistency.”

 

In the JV tournament, Ethan Bray and Logan Sanders were third, Logan Bruce and Saw Soe were fifth, and Elijah Boreland finished sixth.

 

OCHS will take its entire program to Jeff Davis in Hazlehurst this weekend. The varsity boys will compete in a 26-team dual tournament. The girls and JV will compete in round-robin individual tournaments.

 

Turner, Gabriel lead OCHS girls

 

Carlie Gabriel scored 22 points to lead the Oglethorpe County girls basketball team to a 50-29 victory over Lake Oconee Academy on Nov. 25. 

 

Elin Turner scored 18 points and Marin Sampson had 12 rebounds for the Lady Patriots (4-1).

 

On Nov. 24, Turner had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead OCHS to a 52-25 victory over Monroe Area.

 

Gabriel had 17 points and five steals, and Sampson had seven points and five rebounds.
