Former Oglethorpe County wrestling coach Tim Stoudenmire has been selected to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Georgia Chapter.
Stoudenmire, who retired from coaching in the spring, received the news in a FedEx package that he initially mistook for something for his wife or son, who he said receives the bulk of deliveries at their home.
“I’m certainly honored by it and humbled by it, and I appreciate it,” Stoudenmire said. “As far as a high school coach goes, winning a state championship and being inducted into the hall of fame are some of the bigger feathers in your cap, so to speak. And I know that’s not what you base your career on or measure your success by, but it certainly is something that I appreciate and that I’m honored to be a part of.”
Stoudenmire’s teams compiled a 706-167 dual-meet record at Morgan County, Clarke Central and Oglethorpe County, where he wrestled in high school. He led the Patriots to a Class AA state wrestling title in 2021 and the OCHS girls track team to three state titles in four years (2021, 2022 and 2024).
He also led Morgan County to three state wrestling championships.
Stoudenmire, who plans to retire from teaching at the end of this semester, is one of 13 inductees in Georgia this year. Twelve of those, including Stoudenmire, are "Lifetime Service to Wrestling" recipients.
He’ll be inducted in the North Georgia induction ceremony, scheduled for May 4 at The Venue at Friendship Springs in Flowery Branch.
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
