Accident cuts power along 78

Georgia Power and local emergency services responded to an incident involving a tractor-trailer on Monday afternoon that led to a power outage that affected 1,140 Oglethorpe County residents, the cities of Lexington and Crawford, and businesses along Highway 78.

OCHS parapro charged after bus collision

A Carlton man struck a school bus in the Oglethorpe County High School parking lot and fled the scene on the morning of March 19, according to the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office. No students were injured, and the bus did not sustain any damage.

Truck accidents plague county

Tractor-trailers and their drivers are having a tough time in Oglethorpe County. Two 18-wheelers overturned on Monday — one of them on Saxon Mattox Road — and a third overturned at the same spot on Tuesday night.

A high-speed chase through two counties ended when a car driven by an Elbert County resident flipped several times and crashed in a front yard in Lexington on Aug. 3.

Two county residents killed in accidents

Two Oglethorpe County men were killed in separate automobile accidents on U.S. Highway 78 last week, coroner Howard Sanders confirmed. Steve Justin Griffith Sr. died in a wreck at the intersection of 78 and Arnoldsville Road on Nov.
