County is relatively unscathed

Oglethorpe County avoided the worst of this week’s winter storm, as ice accumulation and road conditions fell short of projections.

Helpers of all ages chip in as county cleans up after storm

Help for Sunday’s storm cleanup in Oglethorpe County came from unexpected places. “I saw (a few boys) just sawing away with their little pocket knives, so I stopped and talked to them briefly, and told them thank you,” said Adam Nation, the county’s public works director.

County cleans up after thunderstorms

The thunderstorms that hit Northeast Georgia last Thursday caused extensive damage, power outages and road closures throughout Oglethorpe County.   Dozens of county roads were closed by downed trees and power lines, Commission Chair Jay Paul said, and U.S.
Oglethorpe County Public Works Department crews worked late Saturday night and into the early morning hours of Sunday, July 9 to clear trees and debris in several locations after storms blew down trees. There were no injuries, but crews estimated between 75-100 trees fell and needed to be cleared from Melton Road and William McCurley Road in Winterville, and Center Church Road and McWhorter Road in Stephens, said Adam Nation, the public works director. Crews clean up after wind, rain

County and utility crews spent the early part of this week clearing roads and restoring power throughout Oglethorpe County following storms early Monday morning.   Rayle EMC confirmed 6,200 outages were reported in the 10 area counties it serves.
