Despite youth, boys wrestling continues to set lofty goals

After a 21-6 record in his first season as the Oglethorpe County boys wrestling coach, Steve Mason must turn elsewhere for production. “We have approximately 30 young men, but a lot of new wrestlers, a lot of them that have actually never wrestled before,” he said.

  The Oglethorpe County wrestling team finished sixth at the Class A State meet last weekend at Heard County. The Patriots defeated McIntosh County Academy in the first round, but lost to Mount Pisgah 41-33 to drop to the consolation bracket.

OCHS wrestling is seeking redemption with young roster

The Oglethorpe County wrestling team was full of confidence when it traveled to Bremen for the dual championships last January. The then-reigning state champions had dominated the prelims — winning 71-6 and 80-0 — and had a slew of experienced seniors.
