Glynn Segars, who owns Community Cigar in downtown Lexington, is renovating the warehouse behind his store in order to lease it.
The warehouse is being used as storage for various items, including 11 vats from Jekyll Brewing, which closed all five of its locations last year. Segars said he wasn’t planning on doing anything with the vats.
“We used our expertise to help them get out of that building and remove that equipment,” Segars said. “(We) didn’t have a whole lot of time to manipulate it or put it anywhere else.”
Restoration has been made more difficult due to a neighboring construction project. Debris from the site washed under the building causing structural damage.
“It kept happening, so we just said ‘Hey, look, we’ll just put a hold on this. Let’s get everything structurally sound,’ ” Segars said.
Segar plans to continue renovations in August. The next step is roofing the building.
“We’re just waiting on a good stretch of five days of good weather and our availability of labor,” Segars said.
New salon opens in downtown Comer
Salon Winston opened in downtown Comer on July 1, making its debut as owner Natalie Winston’s second salon location.
As a resident of Comer, she was encouraged by her family to open a second location closer to where she lived.
“It’s a lot more convenient for me and a lot of my clients since they live in Madison County or Oglethorpe,” Winston said.
Winston’s other salon is in Athens and has been open for about two years. The salon was voted by Athens Best of the Best as one of the top five salons in Athens for 2025 and 2026.
“We always strive to do our best for people,” Winston said. “We want to enjoy it because we’ve had our hair done places and it hasn’t been good, and we know what it’s like to not be happy.”
Winston and stylist Hailey Williams work at the new location. Winston is looking to hire more local stylists in the Madison and Oglethorpe area.
Former antique store sold again
The building at 102 E. Main St., the former Lexington Antique Mall, was sold again, this time to Maritza Monroy.
Monroy plans to open a new restaurant in the building which will be connected to a barbershop created by her son Brian Hercules Monroy.
“God willing, my plan is to open a new restaurant called La Hacienda Deli & Restaurant,” Monroy said. “The restaurant will be on the right side of the building, and on the left side, my son plans to open his own barbershop.”
Former owner Ronnie Boggs sold the property to Dr. Rob Pitts in 2022. Pitts’ son Ben had plans to open a restaurant called Lexington Public House, but that changed.
“I bought the building because he was planning on opening a restaurant there, and then he had some other career opportunity come up and decided he wasn’t going to do that,” Rob Pitts said.
Monroy also owns Relaxing Farm Home, a guest house in Winterville. She hopes to open the restaurant in the next six months.
“I’m hoping everything goes well with the permits and remodeling, with God’s help,” Monroy said.
