A fruit and vegetable store has opened in the building next to the Peach Express on Athens Road in Crawford.
Wayne Loggans, who owns and operates the store with his family, has been selling produce in makeshift stands for 15 years.
“I’m tired of sitting in the heat,” Loggans said. “That’s been my dream for 15 years.”
Loggans also owns Wayne’s Boiled Peanuts and will continue selling at community events. Loggans said the produce his store sells is “cheaper and fresher than most of your grocery stores,” with most of its inventory being locally and seasonally grown.
On opening day, the selection at Wayne’s Produce included corn, tomatoes, green limas, mangoes, cantaloupes and watermelons.
Wayne’s Produce is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.

The signs don’t give a timeframe for the store to reopen.
