Oglethorpe County is preparing to resurface five county roads and restripe three roads, starting next week.
Sections of roads to be resurfaced:
- 3.9 miles of Centerville Road, from Wesley Chapel Road to Wilkes County line (Dry Fork Creek)
- 2.8 miles of Dunlap Road
- 1.5 miles of Walter Sams Road
- 1.3 miles of West Beaverdam Road
- 6 miles of Arnoldsville Road
Roads to be restriped:
- Lexington-Carlton Road
- Sandy Cross Road
- Beaverdam Road
The entire project is scheduled to take up to a month, but the timeline is not definitive, Board of Commissioners Chairman Jay Paul said.
“My advice to (Oglethorpe County residents) is once they see the paving equipment showing up, they should look for alternative routes,” he said.
C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. won the project bid. The county will pay approximately $2.5 million, with most of the funding coming from the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST), Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
The project comes as a result of numerous complaints regarding potholes and uneven roads.
“Literally, there's not a day that goes by that there's not a complaint submitted about a road,” Paul said.
Paul said he hopes to have all the roads in Oglethorpe County eventually restriped.
