Naomi McPeake was recognized as a Master 4-H’er and Abigail Whitney finished second in the Dairy Project at the 82nd annual 4-H State Congress in Atlanta in July.
McPeake had been awarded Showmanship Champion at the State Livestock Show in Perry, Georgia.
Whitney demonstrated her knowledge of dairy goats and the importance of genetics in the livestock show world.
Montana Barner competed in the Wildlife and Marine Science Project and shared her knowledge and enthusiasm of Georgia’s unique coast and marshlands.
Barner graduated from Oglethorpe County High School and is a freshman at the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick. Whitney is a sophomore and McPeake is a freshman at OCHS.
State Congress is the premier competition and recognition event for high school age Georgia 4-H’ers.
Rowan, Whiddon to attend vet summit
Dr. Ed Rowan, owner of Oglethorpe Animal Clinic, and Hillary Whiddon, the practice manager, have been invited to attend the Practice Health Summit in Burlington, Vermont, in October.
This is an invitation-only event extended to 25 clinics across the country per event. The summit will concentrate on working to find solutions to help practices and create plans to increase client compliance.
Dr. Rowan brings 30 years experience to the clinic with certification in surgical laser services. Whiddon has 10 years experience in veterinary medicine and holds numerous certifications, including “Fear Free” and is a NAVC certified veterinary business leader.
OCHS seeks groups for homecoming parade
Oglethorpe County High School is looking for businesses, teams, clubs and organizations to join this year’s homecoming parade, which is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 4 in downtown Crawford.
The annual parade will depart from and return to Bryan Park, and travel on North Street, past the depot and proceed down North Woodlawn Drive.

The deadline to enter the parade is Sept. 2.
Firefly Trail Race registration is open
It’s time to register for this fall’s Firefly Trail Race Series.
The fall races include the Fleet Feet Five Miler at Dudley Park in Athens on Aug. 24, the 21st Crawford Restoration Run 5K on Sept. 1 and the Jamboree Jog 5K Run, 10-mile Run or 10K Run in Union Point on Sept. 27.
