Middle school student dies

Oglethorpe County students and staff are mourning the loss of Saniah Appling, an eighth-grader who died Friday morning.

 

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Saniah's family, friends and loved ones as they navigate through this profound loss," Superintendent Beverly Levine said in a release. "Let us remember Saniah's bright smile and impact she had on all who knew her."

 

Coroner Jason Lewis said he can't release any details about Appling's death, which is under investigation. 

 

The Oglethorpe County School System is providing additional counselors and trained personnel to offer assistance to students, parents and faculty this week.

 

For additional assistance, OCMS counselor Annie Murphy (amurphy@oglethorpe.k12.ga.us) and system social worker Turley Howard (thoward@oglethorpe.k12.ga.us) are available.

Jones Funeral Chapel in Crawford is in charge of arrangements.

 

A visitation is scheduled for April 26 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Jones Funeral Chapel.

 

A funeral service is scheduled for April 27 at 1 p.m. at New Grove Baptist Church in Winterville.
