The Oglethorpe County Board of Education will discuss the 2024-25 school year and strategic plan during a meeting at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at Oglethorpe County Middle School.
The BOE will review and update its mission, vision and beliefs, its strengths and weaknesses through its comprehensive needs assessment, adjust its action steps, and update the district and school improvement plans, parent and family engagement plans and school-parent compacts.

Zoning board to hold landfill expansion hearing
The Oglethorpe County Zoning Board will hold a public hearing about the landfill expansion at 6 p.m. Monday, May 20. The meeting will be held at the commission office at 105 Union Point Road.
Motor vehicle system will be out on May 24
The tax commissioner’s motor vehicle system will be down from 9-11 a.m. Friday, May 24. The system will be upgraded during that time.
Lexington concert set for Saturday
Local vocalists will perform at a free concert at Meson Park at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 18.
The performers include Jeannette JJ Combs, Delbra Kendrick, George Gray, Ken Mobley, Whitney Carnes, Chip Rosenthal, Jack Parsons and others. Music selections will come from multiple genres.
Donations will support the Lexington Community Center and 2nd Chance BBQ will be on hand for food purchases.
The concert is sponsored by the Lexington Downtown Development Authority and All in the Family DJ & Karaoke.
