No flu vaccines at local pharmacy

Skrip Shoppe Pharmacy, the only pharmacy in Oglethorpe County, is out of its seasonal allotment of 300 flu vaccines.

“People just came in earlier for their vaccines this year,” pharmacist Leigh Anne Bridges said in a phone interview.

Flu season hit the U.S. and Oglethorpe County earlier than normal this year. That led to an earlier flu peak in October and November, rather than in December and into January,  like past years.

Southern states have had the highest flu activity this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2022-2023 FluView report.

Pharmacies order flu vaccines in the spring and can’t reorder during the season.

Madden’s Pharmacy in Elberton also is out of flu vaccines and Ward’s Pharmacy no longer has them available for those who are over 65.

Chain pharmacies such as Walgreens, CVS and MinuteClinics have vaccine appointments available. Walk-ins are also accepted.
