The business owner who applied to rezone 12.3 acres on Double Bridges Road from agricultural to heavy industrial is considering withdrawing his application, County Planner McKenzie Spooner told The Oglethorpe Echo in an email on Wednesday morning.

The rezoning of 495 Double Bridges Road in Winterville (tax parcel 012 014A) was tabled by the Oglethorpe County Zoning Board at its meeting on Nov. 20.

Spooner said when she called the business owner on Tuesday to update him on the application status, he “expressed that he would like to withdraw his application.”

She was waiting on a confirmation email as of presstime on Wednesday.

According to the rezoning application, the business owner wanted to “build a shop for ASA Paving. In the future, we plan to build a concrete plant.”

ASA Paving is based in Wilkes County.

The rezoning application was on the Oglethorpe County website (www.oglethorpecountyga.gov/current-zoning-items) as of Wednesday morning. Click the buttons labeled “RZ 095” to see the application and staff report.
