State Route 77 closure to affect travel into Elbert County

State Route 77 in Elbert County will be closed from Oct. 13-17, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

The closure will likely only affect Oglethorpe County residents heading into Elbert County, said Allen Long, highway maintenance foreman.

State Route 77/South Oliver Street will be blocked off at the intersection of Mineral Springs Road, and detour signage has been posted.

Oglethorpe County residents heading to Elbert County will need to avoid the construction by using Country Club Road in Elberton, Long said.

GDOT cautioned motorists to reduce their speed and stay alert while traveling through work zones.

Crews will replace an underground culvert, a drainage structure used to carry water through embankments to facilitate water flow, GDOT stated in a release.
