Job description for BOE District 1 representative

Notice of Oglethorpe County Board of Education’s intent to ap- point a District 1 Representative to the Oglethorpe County Board of Education to fill the vacant seat for District 1 ending Dec. 31, 2024.   The Georgia Constitution requires that an elected school board oversee each school system.

Jordan finds Crawford has perfect temperature for success

Central office repairs entering final stage

Paul Thiel, the director of operations for the Oglethorpe County School System, is hopeful repairs to the central office will be complete by the start of school on Aug. 7.

Old Lexington Baptist steeple gets a makeover

In 1975, Lexington Baptist Church replaced its steeple with a newer version and memorialized the original by keeping it on the property, along with a placard.

Crocheting with Care: Virginia Sanders serves others with her craft

Despite the thunderstorm crackling at 7 a.m. on a Saturday in late March, Virginia Sanders still packs her car with bags of food and coffee supplies, boxes of yarn and a tupperware of name tags before she heads over to Lexington Baptist Church.

Echo receives 9 awards in newspaper contest

The Oglethorpe Echo earned nine section and individual awards in the Georgia Press Association's annual Better Newspaper Contest.   “The story of The Oglethorpe Echo was a highlight of the Jekyll Island event,” said Dink NeSmith, chairman of The Oglethorpe Echo Legacy Inc.

News Roundup: Business Expo to highlight local services, products

The Oglethorpe County Chamber of Commerce’s Business Expo will be on Thursday, June 22 from 1-7 p.m. at The Depot, 1158 Athens Road in Crawford. The event will be an opportunity to learn more about local businesses as they showcase services and products available in and around the county.
