Berry's life leaves large, lasting legacy

From cultivating a widespread love of horticulture to providing flowers for events both large and small, Rick Berry made an impact far beyond Oglethorpe County while also serving as a community leader.    The beloved Lexington business owner and former mayor died Friday of pancreatic cancer.

Christmas Marketplace aims for bigger crowds this year

After seeing a decrease in attendance last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Linda Parish is hopeful that the crowds at this year’s Oglethorpe County Christmas Marketplace will be back to normal.

High school to appeal region realignment

Oglethorpe County High School will appeal its realignment to Region 8-AA.   Athletic director Kris Patel said the appeal to the Georgia High School Association will be heard on Thursday, Nov. 18.

Those Who Served: Honoring the veterans of Oglethorpe County

The flash of an explosion blinded William Jackson in the engine room of the USS Glacier.    Jackson, a fireman for the U.S. Coast Guard, had been watching the ship’s generators and switchboard in the middle of the night. As he walked by one generator, it suddenly erupted.

World Series Braves win captivates local couple

Barry and Iris Walker had three big items on their bucket list: attend a Little League World Series, a College World Series and a World Series. They just checked one of those boxes off their list.   The Oglethorpe County natives attended Game 4 of the World Series at Truist Park on Oct. 30.
