Barbara (Wilson) Laubert, 91, passed peacefully at home on Jan. 31, 2025. She was the wife of Andy Laubert Sr. (1930-2024) for 72 years.
Barbara married Andy in 1950. They lived in Andy's hometown of Egg Harbor, New Jersey, where they raised their nine children: Andy (Bernadette) Laubert Jr., Ruthann (Laubert) Donaldson, Grace Laubert (preceded by her husband, Nick) Perona, Rosemary (Laubert) Farnsworth, Bill (Barbara Chiapinni) Laubert, Lori (Laubert) Glinski, Doug Laubert, Beverly (Laubert) (John) Fineran and Greg (Gay) Laubert.
They lived in New Jersey until 1993, when they decided to move south to the small town of Lexington in Oglethorpe County, close to two of their children who had moved to the area.
Barbara and Andy quickly settled in, making new friends in their small town and in nearby Athens through their involvement with various community connections.They grew lasting friendships through their church in Athens and soon became big fans of UGA football.
Barbara loved to stay in touch with her friends of many decades who lived up north and throughout the country. She was a published poet, a seamstress and a family historian, often passing on stories handed down from her beloved grandmother.
Barbara's large family includes her nine children, 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind two brothers, Edmund Wilson of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Bill Wilson of Key Largo, Florida, as well as a sister, Mary (Wilson) Waldschmidt of Noblesville, Indiana.
A memorial service will be held to say farewell at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025 at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Athens.
