Doris Graham Callaway, 91, of Crawford, died July 8 at Piedmont Athens Regional, surrounded by her adoring family. The daughter of Lillian Chastain Pitts and William Cary Pitts, she was born in Point Peter in Oglethorpe County.

 

She was preceded in death by her first husband Kelly Graham, second husband Owen Callaway, her son, Doug Graham, her brothers Alvin, Melvin, and Bobby Pitts, and sister, Catherine Callaway.

 

After graduating from Oglethorpe County High School, Doris married her beloved Kelly Graham. They were married 40 years until his untimely death in 1991. 

 

They raised three wonderful children together. They enjoyed camping with BT and Rosalind Allen and Mary and Al Johnson. They especially enjoyed spending time at the mountain house in Hiawassee, Georgia, with Kelly's sister Ellen and her husband George Holcomb.

 

Doris married Owen Callaway in 1993. She cared for him for many years in the nursing home. She loved his children Gary, Larry and Scott, and his grandchildren.

 

Doris was a homemaker and caregiver for her family her entire life. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family. especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Doris is survived by her beloved daughters Karen (David) Callaway and Kristie (David) Huff; grandchildren Douglas Graham, Kimberly (Frank) Pittman, Matthew (Colleen) Graham, Graham (Amanda) Callaway, Kelly (Calley) Huff and Katie Huff; adored great-grandchildren Kalyn and Hudson Callaway, and Madelyn and Caroline Graham.

 

She is also survived by her beautiful sister, Jeannie Fincher, who was the best birthday present born on Doris's seventh birthday, beloved sisters-in-law Ellen Holcomb and Hazel Graham, many special nieces and nephews, special friend and caregiver of three years, Mattie Pearl Smith, other special caregivers, Dorothy Mason and Wanda Echols.

 

Pallbearers will be grandsons Douglas Graham, Matthew Graham, Graham Callaway, Kelly Huff, Frank Pittman, Brent Black and Hudson Callaway. Honorary pallbearers will be David Callaway, David Huff, Phil Williams, Scott Maxwell, Edd Lowe and Ralph Maxwell Sr.

 

Funeral services will be held as follows: Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at Lord & Stephens Funeral Homes East, and service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 11 at Lord & Stephens East Funeral Home, with burial at Sandy Cross Cemetery.
