James Alton "Dub" Melton
James Alton "Dub" Melton, 88 of Winterville, died July 29, 2024.
A lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, he was a son of the late William James and Mary Elizabeth Hardeman Melton. Dub served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was active with the Winterville Lions Club and a longtime member of Winterville First Baptist Church.
Dub is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Ruff Melton, sister-in-law Virginia Melton and brother-in-law Larry Busbin. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was always a second father figure to all. He was preceded in death by his sister Linda Melton Busbin and brother Billy Melton.
Services were Friday, Aug. 2 at Lord & Stephens, East chapel with Christian Colson officiating. Interment was at Winterville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Busbin, Greg Ruff, Mitch Ruff, Donald Butler, Jimmy Melton and Michael Criswell.
