Mr. Larry Woodrow Williamson, 88, of Lillian Strong Road, Carlton, husband of 68 years to Vonyce “Jean” Hickox Williamson, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Williamson was born in Jefferson on Sept. 12, 1937, son of the late Woodrow Williamson and Doris Kathleen Craven Williamson. He served his country with the U.S. Navy and retired from AT&T as a senior systems analyst after 47 years of service.
Larry was a member of Burts United Methodist Church.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and spending time on his John Deere mowing grass. Affectionately known as “Papa” to his family, he was a collector of prop planes and never missed an opportunity to watch Western movies, especially if they starred John Wayne.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Jean, are his children: Bret Williamson and his wife Alice of Lexington, Cathi Mowen and her husband Bob of Hartwell, and Nannette Williamson of Carlton; sister, Doris Reeves of Galt, California; sister-in-law, Jean Williamson of Newborn; grandchildren: Joshua (Danielle) Mowen, Jason Williamson, Sarah (Craig) Wood, Mitchell (Cathy) Williamson, Courtney (Nick) Curry, Matt (Bri) Burson, Abbey Shealy, Caleb (Madeline) Buxton, Karen (Gerson) Morales, Michael Burson, and Meleah (Nathan) Hines; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters: Kelly Mastromarino and Holly Buxton; grandson, Phillip Burson; and brother, Jerry Williamson.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 at Berry Funeral Home, 1265 Washington Highway, Elberton.
Funeral services celebrating Larry’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 at Burts United Methodist Church, Veribest Enterprise Road, Carlton, with the Rev. Dale Giefig and Anne Hanson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Williamson will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
