Paul Alphus Grimes, 89, of Crawford, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 28, 2024. He was a lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, where he was a member and honorary deacon of Welcome Avenue Congregational Holiness Church. 

 

He was the son of the late Paul B. and Lila Lucas Grimes. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 69 years, and the love of his life, Juanita Grimes; three children, Sharon Good (David), Wanda Fitzgerald and Dwayne Grimes (Lorie); two grandchildren, Sheree Scogin (Tim) and Melanie Grimes; three great grandchildren, Walker Scogin, Ethan Scogin and Gracie Scogin; brother, Claude Neil Grimes; nephew,

 

Stanley Grimes (Daphne) and niece, Deborah Miller (Rocky). 

 

His life was one of dedication and service to others and his generous heart made him the man we all loved and respected. 

 

He was a carpenter by trade and loved working with his hands. In his earlier years, he was the owner of Grimes Construction. He enjoyed working the land and took pride in his work as a poultry farmer. 

 

His hobbies were cooking hash, creating and writing recipes daily for his famous stew, and was always willing to talk with friends and family. 

 

He put Jesus Christ first in his life. He was a devoted husband, daddy and grandfather. He was always there when his children needed him. 

 

His love was unconditional. 

 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 at the funeral home. 

 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 2 at Welcome Avenue Congregational Holiness Church, 1140 Crawford Smithonia Road, Crawford, Georgia 30630. 

 

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
