It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Edward “Ed” Bradford, on Oct. 18, 2024, just days before his 74th birthday.
Born in the fall of 1950 and raised in an orange grove in Orlando, Florida, Ed was a proud Floridian with an untraditional life full of unique experiences, endless stories, and profound wisdom.
A man of many talents, Ed was a musician who played Florida folk music alongside dear friends, a boat captain, a lover of fishing and the water, a passionate advocate for the earth, a loving husband and father, and a friend to all. He had a deep love for rural, old Florida and cherished its simple beauty.
In his 30s, he and his beloved wife, Jan, spent time living in the Bahamas, where they lived by the light of the moon, embracing a peaceful, natural way of life. They later welcomed their daughter Raechel and returned to Central Florida.
Ed eventually found his calling in teaching political science at the University of Central Florida, where he helped young minds learn, grow, and think critically. He proudly served on the Tree Board of the Oviedo City Council for many years, dedicated to preserving greenspace in his community.
He was a storyteller, always ready to share tales from his treasure trove of life experiences, inspiring those around him with his deep wisdom.
The bond Ed shared with his daughter was something truly special — an unbreakable connection filled with love, laughter and mutual admiration. He was not only her father, but her guide, friend and biggest supporter. The memories they shared are an enduring testament to the love they had for one another.
He was loving, jolly and made an unforgettable impression on everyone he met. The first time you met Ed, you made a friend for life. He lived every day with an open heart and generosity, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and connection.
Ed leaves behind the love of his life, his steadfast and dedicated wife of 48 years, Jan, daughter Raechel, son-in-love Ben and grandchildren, Jack Wade and Lauren, who held a very special place in his heart.
He also leaves behind his loving sister, Joyce Lambertson (Bob), and many, many nieces, nephews that he was so fond of. He joins his dear friends and family who have gone before him, including his mother Mildred Morgan Bradford, father Ralph Bradford, sisters Gayle Alexander and DiAnne Bradford, son-in-law Robert Richards, and several lifelong friends. It shall be a joyful reunion.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 26, 2024 at their home in Roswell, Georgia. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the man who touched so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you plant a tree in his honor for future generations, at thetreesremember.com.
His love for life, his family, music, and nature, along with his jolly spirit, will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
