Steven “Steve” Douglas Jones, 60, died on Oct. 24, 2024.
Born in Athens, he was the son of Clifford Carter Jones and Effie Mae Hawkes Jones. Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sherman B. Hawkes and Gladys Murray Hawkes, and paternal grandparents, Emory Otis Jones and Winona Duncan Jones.
Steve began his law enforcement career with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office in 1992 and retired from the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office in 2022. He was a member of Grove Chapel Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Judy Ann Jones and parents, include one daughter, Melissa Ann (Benjamin) Paul; sister Tammy (John) Jones; granddaughter Amelia Jacquelyn Paul; mother-in-law Verita Hall; nephews Matthew (Sara) Jones and Andrew Jones, and great niece Grace Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 at Lord & Stephens East Chapel. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow at Grove Chapel Church.
