William ‘Bill’ Franklin Fleeman

William “Bill” Franklin Fleeman, 84, of Winterville, died on Nov. 23, 2025. He was the only child of the late Benjamin Franklin Fleeman and Leah Martin Fleeman.

 

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy Gradine (Echols) Fleeman, his daughter, Nancy Maria Gray (Frank), his son Christopher William Fleeman (Shannon), and grandchildren Keely, Jamie (Hannah), and Cassie Gray. Bill is also survived by sister-in-law Denise Echols and brother-in-law David Echols (Linda) and niece Heather Echols Cabe (Will) and nephew Hayden Echols and great nephews Deacon and Teller Cabe and great niece Emersyn Cabe.

 

Bill lived the majority of his life in Oglethorpe County. After graduation from Oglethorpe County High School in 1959, he was drafted into the Army, where he proudly served his country for two years. 

 

After completing his time serving his country, he returned home to help on the family farm. In addition to farming, he began working in Watkinsville, at the factory formerly known as Anaconda and South Wire. Bill worked at the plant for 38 years. 

 

When not working, Bill enjoyed traveling across the country and spending time with friends at their home at Yonah Mountain. 

 

He loved to garden and work in his shop, too. Bill was a member of the Crawford Church of Christ and cherished time spent with his church family.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens East, Athens. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from noon to 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Winterville Cemetery.
