Compton, Mckie spark wrestlers to third place

Walker Compton, a freshman, and Tanner Mckie, a senior, led the Oglethorpe County wrestling team to a third-place finish at the Campbell Spartan Duals on Saturday. 

 

Compton and Mckie were both undefeated as the Patriots defeated Blessed Trinity 56-11, Wheeler 66-0 and Johns Creek 33-29.

 

Compton had a 20-4 tech fall win over Campbell’s Oliver Oei, the Cobb County champion, coach Steve Mason said.

 

“(Oei) never had a chance against Walker,” Mason said.

 

Mckie and senior wrestlers were to be honored at senior night on Tuesday. They include Kendon Brown, Jesse Chambers, Keagan Moats, Aidan Dellinger and Ethan McClean.

 

Girls basketball defeats Clarke

 

Elin Turner scored 18 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Oglethorpe County girls basketball team to a 39-36 victory over Clarke Central on Saturday.

 

Turner added four assists and five steals as the Patriots improved to 7-8 this season.

 

Carlie Gabriel scored 12 points and had five rebounds, and Marin Sampson added seven points and led OCHS with 12 rebounds.

 

The Clarke Central boys defeated the OCHS boys 60-46.

 

The OCHS basketball teams will hold senior night ceremonies between the girls and boys games against Banks County on Friday. The girls will play at 7 p.m., followed by the boys at 8:30 p.m.

The Oglethorpe County Middle School boys basketball team lost to Athens Christian 32-27 and the girls lost to ACS 34-19 on Jan. 15.
