Andrew Goller, Paris Crowder and Tanner Mckie each went 8-1 in their matches to lead the Oglethorpe County boys wrestling team to a sixth-place finish at the Jeff Davis Yellow Jacket Duals in Hazlehurst last weekend.
The Patriots, who are ranked 10th in Class A, defeated Swainsboro 78-6, Wayne County 40-39, Berrien 55-24, Montgomery County 64-12, Harlem 68-12 and Lexington (South Carolina) 43-31. They lost to Toombs County 51-24, Bradley Central (Tennessee) 57-23 and Effingham County 37-33.
Toombs, Bradley Central and Lexington are each ranked in their states.
“Overall we competed very well,” coach Steve Mason said. “Our kids started finding their identity on the mat and who we want to be. We lost to a very good Toombs County team and perennial power from Tennessee (Bradley Central). We did let one slip away versus Effingham County. We have to close the deal in matches like that and we just didn't make it happen. A lot of good teaching points will come from that loss.”
Christian Harris and Walker Compton were each 7-2, and Kendon Brown was 6-3.
For the JV boys, Logan Sanders, Ethan Bray, Paul Pittard and Saw Soe were first. Logan Bruce was third and Ayden Todd, Elijah Boreland and Peyton Duvall were fourth.
