Volleyball runs win streak to 10
The Oglethorpe County volleyball team ran its winning streak to 10 matches in a row with a victory over Stephens County on Monday.
The Patriots improved to 22-8 on senior night as Elizabeth Cook, Carlie Gabriel, Aryana Knight and Ansley Paul were honored after the victory.
Last week, OCHS defeated Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy and Elbert County.
The Patriots are 6-2 in Area 8-A heading into Thursday’s matches against Rabun County and Banks County.
Turner shines for cross country team
Elin Turner had her best time of the year for the Oglethorpe County cross country team in the Apple Hawkins Invitational at Apalachee on Saturday.
Turner finished in 23:47.49, good for 36th.
John Adams led the boys team in 17:53.50 to finish in 19th place and Cory Tillman was 22nd with a time of 17:56.90.
Jonah Burke (19:34.20), Rex Allen (19:44.50), Josiah Young (20:08.20) and Julian George (20:09.70) were Oglethorpe County’s other top finishers.
“We had a good week of practice but have to continue to work hard and continue to improve culminating at state,” coach Brandon Adams said.
Anderson has big week for softball
Lillie Anderson had two hits, but Banks County defeated the Oglethorpe County softball team 5-0 on Tuesday night.
Khloe Eidson added a hit for the Patriots, who are 11-5, 7-2 in Region 8-A Division I.
Last week, Morgan Davis went 3-for-4, Emilee Cutsail had two hits and four RBIs and Anderson added two hits to lead the Patriots to a 10-6 win over Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy.
Winning pitcher Reese Campbell had four strikeouts.
OCHS will host Commerce in a region game at 6 p.m. Thursday.
OCMS football hosts playoff game
The middle school football team will host East Jackson in the first round of the playoffs at 5 p.m. Thursday. A win would send the Patriots to the championship game.
In volleyball, the A team lost to Commerce in two sets and the B team won in two sets in their final matches of the year.
The softball team lost to West Jackson on Sept. 22 and Legacy Knoll on Sept. 17.
