New cross country course provides training ground

The Oglethorpe County cross country program has not been able to host a 5K race for years. High-traffic roads intersect potential routes at the schools, which was a major operational obstacle.  That changed this spring with a new all-grass cross country course at Oglethorpe Middle School.

Youth movement takes over cross country program

Oglethorpe County’s cross country program is facing a youth movement. And that’s one of the reasons why participation in summer runs has been sparse.

Sister act powers Pats top runners

As younger siblings often do, Lizzie Wadsworth followed in her older sister’s footsteps by joining the middle school cross country team. The duo stuck together through high school until big sister Katie’s graduation, leaving Lizzie as the only upperclassman.

Lady Patriots fourth at state meet

Lizzie Wadsworth was 10th overall to lead the Oglethorpe County girls cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Class AA state meet at Carrollton High School on Nov. 5.   Wadsworth, a junior, had a time of 21:21.13 as Oglethorpe County finished with 169 points.
