Carolyn Barner had two hits and two RBIs, and Khloe Eidson added two hits to lead the Oglethorpe County softball team to a 6-3 victory over Washington-Wilkes on Tuesday in Lexington.
Reese Campbell was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts and no walks.
On Aug. 6, Campbell pitched a two-hitter and struck out five with no walks to lead the Patriots to an 8-0 win over Lincoln County.
Campbell and Zharia Burgess each had two RBIs. Emily Wisham and Barner had two hits each.
“We are playing well,” coach Brianna Dickens said. “Reese has been very consistent and efficient pitching for us. Our defense is also showing tremendous growth and maturity from last year to this year. We are having great quality at bats, fighting at the plate and understanding how to get our jobs done offensively.
“All of our players have had a vital piece in contributing to our ability to compete and get better every day at practice.”
OCHS will play at Jasper County at 6:15 p.m. Thursday and at Washington-Wilkes at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Patriots open Region 8-A Division I play at Barrow Academy of Arts and Sciences (BASA) on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
Newton, Cook lead volleyball to sweep
Leanna Newton and Elizabeth Cook each had 15 kills to lead the OCHS volleyball team to victories over Monroe Area and Washington-Wilkes on Tuesday in Lexington.
The Patriots (8-4) defeated Monroe Area 25-20 and 25-13, and then knocked off Washington-Wilkes 25-10 and 25-3.
Nora Turner added five kills.
“I’m proud of how much they’ve improved so far and absolutely love this team,” coach Brianne Harrison said. “They played so well this past week at LCA, and I think it’s encouraging them to keep improving at practice. I think we are all hopeful to have a successful season.”
On Aug. 9, OCHS won the Silver Bracket of Lake Oconee Academy’s Soft Serve Classic Tournament. The Patriots went 4-2, defeating Stratford Academy, Valwood, Dacula and St. Andrew’s.
On Aug. 7, Newton had 25 kills and Cook added 16 kills as OCHS defeated BASA 25-13 and 25-18, and East Jackson 25-12 and 25-20.
