Reese Campbell was key in the Oglethorpe County softball team’s two victories last week.
She was the winning pitcher, and had two hits and three RBIs to lead the OCHS softball team to a 12-10 victory over Washington-Wilkes on Sept. 4.
Campbell followed that up with another win and two RBIs in a 14-9 win over Lincoln County on Sept. 5.
The Patriots were 11-3 and 3-1 in Region 8-A Division I heading into this week’s games.
Carlee Gibson, the team’s lone senior, was honored before the game on Sept. 4. She was the starting pitcher and struck out two in two innings before finishing the game at third.
Lillie Anderson went 3-for-3, Khloe Eidson had two hits and two RBIs, and Zharia Burgess had two hits in the win over Washington-Wilkes.
Eidson had two hits and two RBIs, Tristin Caldwell had two hits, Burgess had two hits and Anderson had three RBIs in the win over Lincoln County.
The Patriots play at Rabun County on Thursday, Sept. 12.
OCHS football falls to 0-4
Darius Heard rushed for 169 yards and Jordan Johnson added 149 yards rushing, but the Oglethorpe County football team dropped a 34-14 decision to Laney to fall to 0-4 this season.
The Patriots are off this week and will host Elbert County for homecoming on Sept. 20.
“We will use this off week to get a little extra rest, work on fundamentals and prepare to open our region schedule against Elbert County next week,” coach Mike Holland said.
Clint Graham led the Patriots with 16 tackles, one for loss, one fumble recovery and one pass break up.
Matthew Martin had eight tackles and one interception. O’Maury Huggs had seven tackles.
Heard also threw for 33 yards and scored one of the OCHS touchdowns. Jordan scored the other.
Henderson wins cross country meet
Sydnie Henderson won the Bill Woods Pridelands Invitational in Carnesville on Sept. 5.
Elin Turner was eighth and Abigail Whitney finished 10th as the OCHS girls team was second overall.
John Adams was sixth in 19:50 and Luke Holbrooks was 10th as the boys finished third overall.
OCHS volleyball at 2-0 in area
The Oglethorpe county volleyball team defeated BASA and Elbert County in two sets to move to 2-0 in Area 8-A.
The Patriots host Commerce at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
OCMS teams have mixed results
The OCMS volleyball A-team and B-team defeated Bethlehem Christian on Sept. 9 and lost to Loganville Christian on Sept. 5.
The softball team defeated Bethlehem Christian 8-6 on Sept. 9 and lost 11-2 to Loganville Christian on Sept. 5.
The OCMS girls cross country team’s Meadow Nimmons was seventh in the Bill Woods Pridelands Invitational in Carnesville on Sept. 7. Jonah Burke was 12th for the boys team.
