OCHS wrestling finishes second

Paris Crowder (144 pounds) and Miles Mason (165 pounds) won their weight classes to help lead the Oglethorpe County wrestling team to a second-place finish at the Panther Scramble in Jackson County on Saturday.

Dylan Dunuway (106), Andrew Goller (113) and Kendon Brown (157) each finished third in their weight classes. September Htoo (150) and Klo Say (175) were fourth.

Lovett won the meet, which included 13 teams.

“We are still missing our football and cross country runners, but a lot of teams are at this point in the season,” first-year coach Steve Mason said. “We saw a lot of good things out of our wrestlers and a lot that needs to be corrected. We have feedback from actual matches now, so we can get to work and continue to improve.”

There are nine girls on the OCHS girls team, which competed at the Gainesville Scramble on Saturday. Mason said it’s the most amount of girls “we have ever had.”

Their results were:

  • Tori Miller, fourth, experienced bracket
  • Tristan Caldwell, fourth, experienced bracket
  • Akira Owens, first, beginner bracket
  • Emily Gregory, first, beginner bracket
  • Nyah McAfee, second, beginner bracket
  • Alyson Woods, second, beginner bracket
  • Abby Irwin, second, beginner bracket
  • Cayla Hartrum, third, beginner bracket
  • Tessa Cosby, fourth, beginner bracket

“The girls competed very well,” Mason said.
