There’s no slowing the Oglethorpe County girls basketball team.
The Lady Patriots improved to 12-1 with three victories in the Carolina Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina, last week.
OCHS is No. 5 in the GHSA Class A Division I state rankings and fourth in the AJC rankings.
In the final game, Denim Goddard scored 20 points and Kenzie Henderson had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Patriots to a 50-38 victory over Portland (Tennessee) on Saturday.
Goddard had 12 points and six rebounds, and Henderson scored 12 points and had 13 rebounds in a 44-34 win over Berkeley (South Carolina) on Friday.
On Thursday, Henderson had 14 points and 14 rebounds, Elin Turner scored 11 points and Goddard added 10 to lead OCHS past Philip Simmons (South Carolina) 54-33.
Henderson surpassed 1,000 career points in that win and will be honored at a future home game.
The Lady Patriots host Oconee County at 6 p.m. Saturday and Lakeview Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Patriots drop three straight
The OCHS boys team has lost three consecutive games.
Thomson, No. 2 in Class AA, defeated OCHS 67-41on Dec. 30. Cole Appling led the Patriots with 12 points and four assists.
Pendleton (South Carolina) knocked off the Patriots 50-48 on a last-second 3-pointer on Dec. 22. Jaelin Lumpkin scored 16 points and made the all-tournament team. Appling added 13 points.
Winder-Barrow, No. 7 in Class AAAAA, started the losing streak with a 72-35 victory over the Patriots on Dec. 21. Javaun Pittard led OCHS with nine points and eight rebounds.
“We had some tough competition that should pay dividends down the stretch as we get ready for region,” coach Larry Brown said.
