The Oglethorpe County volleyball team will host Commerce at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the second round of the Area 8-A tournament.
The Patriots finished the regular season at 17-6 and 9-1 in the area, losing only to Providence Christian on Oct. 3.
If the Patriots defeat Commerce, they will play at Providence on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The state tournament will begin the following week.
Softball team beats Commerce 16-14
Reese Campbell pitched a complete game and drove in four runs to lead the Oglethorpe County softball team to a 16-14 victory over Commerce on Tuesday night.
The Patriots finished the regular season at 13-11 and will play in the Region 8-A Division I tournament, which starts on Oct. 18.
Lillie Anderson was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Maebrynn Reeves had two hits and four RBIs, Emilee Cutsail was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Khloe Eidson had two hits.
The Patriots had 13 hits.
Cross country team wins invitational
The OCHS boys cross country team won the eighth annual Braves Cross Country Invite in Milledgeville on Oct. 5.
The Patriots’ top five runners were: Dominic Piscitelli (18:55), John Adams (19:06), Luke Holbrooks (19:14), Ethan McLean (20:16) and Rex Allen (20:29).
For the OCHS girls, Sydnie Henderson was second overall with a time of 21:27.
The OCMS boys won the middle school race and the the OCMS girls were fifth.
Jonah Burke medaled in sixth place in a race with 90-plus runners. Meadow Nimmons medaled in 10th place in a race with more than 100 runners.
