Prep Roundup: Wrestlers shine at Walnut Grove duals

The Oglethorpe County wrestling team went 2-1 in duals on Friday Night at Walnut Grove.

The Patriots defeated Class 6A Hillgrove 58-16 and Dacula 41-33, and lost to 4A Walnut Grove 45-36.

Paris Crowder, Miles Mason, Keagan Moats and Klo Say each went 3-0 in matches.

The OCHS girls program’s Akira Owens, Emily Gregory, Nyah McAphee and Tori Miller each went 2-0.

JV wrestlers Brantley Bonner, Christian Harris, Nayshawn Hagans and Gabriel Powell were all undefeated.

“Overall, it was a good night,” OCHS coach Steve Mason said. “I thought we could have gone 3-0, but we just didn't make it happen. We were competing with two forfeits all night due to sickness and injury. It is early in the season. We still need to find our heartbeat as a team to accomplish our goals.”
