Turner sparks girls track to region title

Elin Turner was the high-point winner to lead the Oglethorpe County girls track and field team to the Region 8-A Division I title on Monday in Homer, their sixth consecutive region championship.

 

The Patriots scored 139 points to defeat Banks County (113 points), BASA (118), Rabun County (86), Elbert County (111) and Commerce (86).

 

Turner won the 100-meter hurdles (16.77 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (51.15 seconds), was second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.

 

She also was part of the 4x400 team that finished third, joining Georgia Turner, Nora Turner and Jakorria Woods.

 

The 4x800 team of Georgia Turner, Emily Wisham, Jaliyah Glenn and Nora Turner won with a time of 10:48.03.

 

Zharia Burgess was second in the 100 hurdles and sixteen the 300 hurdles, and Taloria Clark was second in the shot put.

 

Jaliyah Turner was second in the 200 meters and sixth in the long jump.

 

Wisham was third in the 800 and 1,600 meters, and the 4x200 and 4x100 teams each finished third. 

 

Maya Jewell was third in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100 hurdles.

 

Glenn was fourth in the 400 meters and fifth in the 800. Qi’Dasha Flemming was fourth in the 200.

 

Georgia Turner was fourth in the 800 and sixth in the triple jump, Jacelynn McCall was sixth in the 100 meters and Priscilla Lopez was sixth in 3,200 meters.

 

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Class A Division I sectionals at Bremen on Saturday, May 2.

 

Boys finish third at region meet

 

The OCHS boys finished third with 132 points, just behind Elbert County, which won with 146 points and second-place Commerce (133 points) on Monday in Homer.

 

The 4x100 team of Preston Davis, Ke’Mauri Brown, Jackson Harrison and Nicah Pass won with a time of 43.55 seconds.

 

Brown also was second in the long jump and third in the 100 meters.

 

Pass was second in the triple jump and third in the high jump.

 

O’Maury Huggs was second in the discus and third in shot put.

 

The 4x800 team and 4x200 teams each finished second. The 4x400 team was third.

 

Keyvon Gresham was third in the 110-meter hurdles. John Adams was third in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

 

Preston Pittard was fourth in the triple jump and Cory Tillman was fourth in the 3,200 meters.

 

Jackson Harrison was fifth in the 400 meters, Luke Holbrooks was fifth in the 800  and Preston Davis was fifth in the 100.

 

Caleb Wilson was sixth in the discus, Aiden Gabriel was sixth in the shot and Julian George was sixth in the 200 meters.

 

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Class A Division I sectionals at Bremen on Saturday, May 2.
