2022 OCHS Football Schedule Breakdown

Game 1 Aug. 19 East Jackson (8-AA) 2021 record: 3-7, 1-4 in 8-AAA What to know: The Eagles come to Patriot field in a non region matchup. All three of East Jackson’s wins came against teams with three or fewer wins. It was fifth in Region 8 and missed the playoffs.

Prep Roundup: Gabriel pitches Patriots to second win

Claire Gabriel gave up one hit and struck out 11 to lead Oglethorpe County to a 1-0 victory at Washington-Wilkes on Tuesday.    Gabriel walked only one in seven innings as the Patriots improved to 2-1.    Abby Jones had two hits and Jaden Booth drove in the only run.

OCHS football team set for scrimmage

Oglethorpe County football coach Mike Holland has one thing on his mind for Friday’s preseason scrimmage: improvement.   Holland and the Patriots will play at West Hall in Oakwood on Friday, just one week before their first regular-season game against East Jackson in Lexington.

Volleyball team ready to build on busy offseason

Avery Kort has seen a “substantial amount” of growth in the Oglethorpe County volleyball team ahead of this season. She said she would like to grow as a presence in the middle of the court as the season progresses.

Patriots put on pads in preparation for season

Monday marked the first day of preplanning for Oglethorpe County teachers. The football team’s preparation for the 2022 season had its own “first.”   Oglethorpe County’s football team put on pads for the first time this season at practice on Monday.

Senior-laden softball team ready for for new season, region

Trophies are becoming the norm for Oglethorpe County softball and coach Brianna Dickens.   The two-time defending region champion OCHS softball team is looking for a third heading into the 2022 season. The Patriots open against Briarwood Academy on Friday, Aug. 5.

Nation impressive behind the wheel

Tanner Nation is just 16, but you can’t tell by the way he drives.   Nation, who turns 17 in two weeks, has already won a race in his open-wheel modified dirt track class just four races into his 2022 schedule.

No summer off for busy OCHS boys basketball team

Oglethorpe County basketball coach Larry Brown said he and his staff had two goals heading into this summer: individual growth and a team identity.   The Patriots met them during their jam-packed summer.

Former OCHS sprinter sets records as college freshman

Most people can’t say they’ve played a collegiate sport. Former Oglethorpe County High School athlete Quentin Willis can say he’s played two.    Willis wrapped up his freshman year at Manchester University in West Manchester, Indiana, where he had successful track and football seasons.
