Opening of dove season promising despite heavy rains

Opening day of this year’s dove season on Saturday is expected to be successful in Oglethorpe County, despite recent heavy rain, according to officials and hunters. The area received 10.

Arnoldsville resident Diana Vandecar recently found four Mississippi kites in a nearby tree in her neighborhood. The raptors are often mistaken for bald eagles due to their white/gray heads and propensity to soar through the sky.

Turkey harvest again declines in Oglethorpe

Turkey season came to a close on May 15 with a total of 73 turkeys harvested, down from 87 last spring. Due to the declining turkey population, the state has set limitations on turkey hunting.
