Bill would ban school zone cameras

After his constituents began to complain about school zone traffic cameras, like those at the schools in Oglethorpe County, State Rep. Dale Washburn (R-Macon) said he had to do something.

Teachers of the year inspired by students, community

The Oglethorpe County School System teachers of the year were honored by the Board of Education at its meeting last week. The teachers shared their motivation and inspiration with The Oglethorpe Echo. Comments have been edited for length and clarity.

The Oglethorpe County Primary and Elementary Schools hosted an event called Rock Your School Day last Friday. The purpose was to creatively make school unique for the day with themes and experiences, while still educating the children.

Camera, laser system ready for school zones

Cameras and laser speed detectors have been installed in Oglethorpe County’s school zones and should be ready to help enforce the speed by the start of the next school year, Sheriff David Gabriel said.

Q&A: Wilson balances teaching, farming, battling sludge

Miss Oglethorpe pageant to benefit schools, clubs

17 contestants will take the stage at the seventh annual Miss Oglethorpe Pageant this Saturday. This is the most participants since 2016, when 18 competed in the first pageant.
