District looks at new K-5 building idea

A new K-5 school might be coming to Oglethorpe County.   School Superintendent Beverley Levine met with teachers from both the elementary and primary schools last Friday to discuss plans to develop and build a new kindergarten through fifth grade school behind the current elementary school.

OCMS recognizes REACH scholars

Ermon Lewis said he wants to become an entrepreneur and start his own business. He’s still about 4½ years from graduating high school, but thanks to a scholarship opportunity, he’s closer to achieving his goals.

Graduation rate at 94%, above state

  Beverley Levine is quick to spread the credit.   Oglethorpe County Schools’ graduation rate of 94% continues the district’s streak of surpassing the state average, which was 83.7% in 2021, according to graduation data released by Georgia Department of Education on Oct. 21.

World Series Braves win captivates local couple

Barry and Iris Walker had three big items on their bucket list: attend a Little League World Series, a College World Series and a World Series. They just checked one of those boxes off their list.   The Oglethorpe County natives attended Game 4 of the World Series at Truist Park on Oct. 30.

District teacher of the year: Stoudenmire aims to have positive influence on kids

Penni Stoudenmire sees her students not merely as pupils, but as “one big family.”   The Oglethorpe County Primary School kindergarten teacher was recently named the district teacher of the year and will represent the district at the state level.
