Linemen, special teams shine in spring football

The Oglethorpe County High School football team had 68 players at the end of spring practice. This was down from 80-plus at the interest meeting, but that’s still “a lot better” compared to last year’s numbers, according to head coach Mike Holland.   “This year, it feels different,” Holland said.

State champs again

If Oglethorpe County High School girls track coach Tim Stoudenmire had one word to describe this year’s team, it would be “complete.

Palmer selected OCHS valedictorian on Honors Night

Elizabeth Palmer was named valedictorian of Oglethorpe County High School’s graduating class at 2022 Senior Honors Night on Tuesday in the school auditorium.   “It’s been four years of good times,” Palmer said. Her cumulative GPA is 100.3.

CNA class prepares students for entry-level nursing positions

The certified nursing assistant program at Oglethorpe County High School provides definite insight for the students who take it.   “They either really love it, or know they don’t want to go into healthcare anymore,” said Erin Bunch, the healthcare science pathways teacher.   Bunch should know.

Spring football game set for Friday night

The Oglethorpe County football team will host Chestatee in its spring football game at 7 p.m. Friday, May 20.    Tickets are $5.   Coach Mike Holland said 68 players have dressed out this spring as the Patriots look to improve on last year’s 3-7 record.

Fire department gives $2,000 for trip to HOSA conference

Oglethorpe County High School students are going to the HOSA International Leadership Conference this summer, thanks in part to a $2,000 donation from the Beaverdam Volunteer Fire Department.

OCHS Hall of Fame is taking nominations

College football announces its hall of fame class every January in Atlanta. In Massachusetts, basketball notifies its newest class during April.    Now, you can have a say in finding Oglethorpe County High School’s newest class.

OCHS grad is new GHSA president

Jim Finch was selected as Mr. OCHS and Prom King during his senior year In 1989. His new title has more significance.   Finch, a three-sport athlete and 1989 graduate of OCHS, was selected as president of the Georgia High School Association in April.

Track teams head to Class AA meet

The OCHS boys track team qualified athletes in 14 of 18 events for the Class AA state track meet. The girls team qualified athletes in 17 of 18 events. Both teams will compete in the meet at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus on May 12-14.

News Roundup: Dellinger, Tweedell and Graham make UGA majorette line

Oglethorpe County’s Addie Dellinger, Carrie Tweedell and Emily Graham were recently chosen for the UGA majorettes.    Dellinger and Tweedell graduated from OCHS in 2021 and were UGA majorettes last year. Graham is scheduled to graduate from OCHS on May 28.
