Patriots stun Greene to improve to 3-1

Mike Holland was still pumped up over Oglethorpe County’s 34-33 victory over Greene County on Monday.   “Holy cow! That was wild, man,” he said three days after the win. “I’m so proud of our guys.

Baseball team beats Putnam County 9-3

  Blane McFarland struck out nine batters to lead OCHS baseball to a 9-3 victory at Putnam County in Re- gion 4-AA action on Tuesday night.   McFarland allowed three runs in the first, but shut down the War Eagles after that.

Wrestling team improves to 20-1

The Oglethorpe County wrestling team, ranked No. 1 in Class AA, won four matches in the fourth annual Doug Eberhardt Memorial duals on Saturday to move to 20-1 this season. The victories were: Oglethorpe County 64, Athens Christian 9 Oglethorpe County 45, Swainsboro 33 Oglethorpe County 52.

Winterville group honors veterans with wreaths event

Volunteers, including many children, placed wreaths on the graves of veterans during the National Wreaths Across America Day at Winterville Cemetery on Dec. 18.   Denise Van Wicklen organized the Winterville ceremony that included opening remarks and moderation of the ceremony by C/Capt.

Wrestling team sees Sunshine State success

The Oglethorpe County wrestling team had a road trip to remember.   The Patriots won 22 individual matches and lost 22 matches at the Knockout Christmas Classic in Kissimmee, Florida, on Monday and Tuesday.

Hart County takes two from OCHS

Kenzie Henderson and McKenzie Freeman each had double-doubles, but it wasn’t enough to keep Hart County from a 67-60 overtime victory over Oglethorpe County in the Madison County Christmas Tournament on Tuesday night.

Prep Roundup: McGarity leads boys basketball to victory

Luke McGarity scored 19 points and Nick Huff added 15 points to lead the Oglethorpe County boys basketball to a 57-47 victory over Athens Christian School on Tuesday night.   Both teams are coached by former UGA basketball players.

Two county residents killed in accidents

Two Oglethorpe County men were killed in separate automobile accidents on U.S. Highway 78 last week, coroner Howard Sanders confirmed. Steve Justin Griffith Sr. died in a wreck at the intersection of 78 and Arnoldsville Road on Nov.

Girls basketball team wins season-opening games

The Oglethorpe County girls basketball team improved to 2-0 with two victories last weekend.   On Friday, Kenzie Henderson had 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Patriots to a 59-15 victory over West Hall.
