Helpers of all ages chip in as county cleans up after storm

Help for Sunday’s storm cleanup in Oglethorpe County came from unexpected places. “I saw (a few boys) just sawing away with their little pocket knives, so I stopped and talked to them briefly, and told them thank you,” said Adam Nation, the county’s public works director.
The Beaverdam Volunteer Fire Department participated in a pressurized container fire control course hosted by Butch McDuffie, chief of the Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department in Danielsville, on Nov. 18. Multiple departments attended the eight-hour course, which took place at Beaverdam station and at Oglethorpe County High School.

Spearing’s county EMT experience leads to spot in international competition

Kate Spearing’s first time responding to a medical emergency was for a patient in cardiac arrest. It also happened to be the 17-year-old’s first time in the back of an ambulance.

Small steps for fire stations

Jehu Post, Beaverdam’s fire chief, isn’t sure he’d call the planning meeting between fire stations on Oct. 17 a unity meeting, but then again, he might.    “If we (stations) all fall underneath the strategic plan, then we're all working on the same page.

James Jackson answers to many names.    There's his given name. And then there's "Captain." But most folks know him as "Junior."   And if it’s possible, his many jobs and passions outnumber his names.

New quick response vehicle meets needs

Oglethorpe County Emergency Services has been one of the heaviest users of mutual aid resources in the region the past decade. However, the recent purchase of a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) is already changing that need.
