  • The Beaverdam Volunteer Fire Department participated in a pressurized container fire control course hosted by Butch McDuffie, chief of the Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department in Danielsville, on Nov. 18. Multiple departments attended the eight-hour course, which took place at Beaverdam station and at Oglethorpe County High School.

  • Firefighters spent the first four hours of their day at the Beaverdam Volunteer Fire Department learning how to keep pressurized containers from exploding when they catch on fire. Then, the firefighters moved to Oglethorpe County High School for the live-fire training portion of the course.

  • During the live training, the initial flames can shoot up to 40-50 feet in the air. Once the flames die down, firefighters advance toward the tank until the fire is entirely covered. They then continue to cool down the tank and prepare for the next fire.
