The seventh annual Maxeys Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 6 included float awards for taking part in the parade festivities. The Gormans won the award for best float. The Oglethorpe County Transportation Department was second with “The Polar Express.

Artist combines love of painting, color with Christmas decorations

Mary Ann Cox uses vintage elements, such as Christmas cards, and handcrafted pieces, such as a holly painting, to decorate for the holidays.   Cox has transformed her home into a merry oasis through her creativity and artistic abilities.

Christmas Marketplace kicks off holiday season

The twinkle of fairy lights and the laughter of families and friends filled Crawford Depot this past weekend as the Oglethorpe County Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Christmas Marketplace.

OCHS wreath class gets into Christmas spirit

Kim Smith and Daphna Huff have been making wreaths together every Christmas for the last six years. To carry out the tradition this year, Smith and Duff attended the Oglethorpe County High School floral design class’ wreath making class.

Maxeys Christmas parade has new twists

The Maxeys Christmas Parade, back for its fourth year, will feature an acapella group, homemade gingerbread houses and antiques for holiday giving in addition to the parade, parade organizer Heather Parham said.   She spent part of her childhood in Maxeys, before moving back in 2020.

Entries up at Christmas goat show

Contestants showed 132 breeding does (female goats) and 36 entries in the new dairy goat division at the second Oglethorpe County Christmas Classic at the Ag Education Center on Dec. 11-12.   The number of entries increased from 104 in 2020.

Local businesses maintain, see growth in holiday shopping

Some Oglethorpe County businesses are cashing in on the rise in U.S. holiday spending this year.   Oglethorpe County Feed and Hardware Supply owner Danny Sanders says business has increased this holiday season, both in foot traffic and in sales.
