OCHS softball struggles early

The start of the softball season hasn’t been ideal for Oglethorpe County.   The Patriots were 2-6 through Tuesday, with several losses being blowouts. Their defense has struggled, likely due to a large number of new starters.

Freshmen surround lone senior

The Oglethorpe County softball team is back for another season under head coach Brianna Dickens.   The team is coming off of a 15-14 regular season and finished third in Region 5-A Division I with a 2-7 mark, in contrast to a 19-7-1 record and Region 4-AA title in 2022.

Oglethorpe County High School volleyball and girls basketball coach Brianna Dickens has kept herself and her teams busy this offseason.

Prep roundup: Pittard helps Pats open with victory

Javaun Pittard scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Oglethorpe County boys to a 65-62 season-opening victory over Upson-Lee in the Billy Wade Classic on Monday at Clarke Central.   Pittard also had seven steals, four assists and three blocks for the Patriots.

Gabriel’s pitching prowess shines during senior season

Members of the Oglethorpe County High School softball team wrote goals on poster boards at the beginning of the season; some for the team and a few individual ones for each player.    Senior pitcher Claire Gabriel wanted an ERA under 1.00 for the season.

Prep Roundup: Volleyball team wins home opener

The Oglethorpe County volleyball team won its home opener against Putnam County, but struggled in road matches and a tournament at Madison County last week.

Claire Gabriel gave up one hit and struck out 11 to lead Oglethorpe County to a 1-0 victory at Washington-Wilkes on Tuesday.    Gabriel walked only one in seven innings as the Patriots improved to 2-1.    Abby Jones had two hits and Jaden Booth drove in the only run.
