Oglethorpe County High School volleyball and girls basketball coach Brianna Dickens has kept herself and her teams busy this offseason.

Holland ‘encouraged’ with passing game

Don’t get Mike Holland wrong.    Oglethorpe County is a run-first football team, but the head coach said he was excited about quarterback Jayden Wallace’s throwing performance at camps last week.

Campbell hired to lead baseball program

Oglethorpe County has its new head baseball coach.   Mike Campbell, who spent the past two seasons at McIntosh County Academy, has been hired to take over the program. He was approved at the Board of Education’s called board meeting on June 1.

Holland, Dickens named as co-athletic directors

Head football coach Mike Holland and girls basketball/softball head coach Brianne Dickens have agreed to serve as athletic director and co-athletic director for Oglethorpe County High School.

Prep Roundup: Rules issue keeps girls from third state title

A GHSA rules infraction likely kept the Oglethorpe County girls track and field team from a three-peat.   Instead, the Lady Patriots finished second in the Class A Division I meet behind Athens Christian School last weekend in Rome. The Lady Eagles had 62 points to OCHS’ 56 points.

Fleming finishes on top once again

Michael Fleming saved his best for last.   Fleming ran a personal-best time of 14.14 to win the 110-meter hurdles at the Class A Division I state track and field meet in Rome last weekend.

Mallonee out to make impact at state meet

Landon Mallonee has experienced the state track and field meet the past two years, but this year’s event holds special meaning for him.   Mallonee, a junior, qualified individually in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and as part of the 4x800 relay team.

Patriots capture first area championship

  The Oglethorpe County volleyball team had a heated final set against Aquinas. On the verge of heading into a fourth set, the Lady Patriots trailed 25-24.   The Lady Patriots called a timeout in an effort to take a breath and remain calm.

Second-year success

From state titles in track and wrestling, to top region finishes by the cross county and softball teams, Oglethorpe County High School sports is on the rise.    The volleyball team looks to earn hardware of its own.
