Wadsworth finds her wings

Lizzie Wadsworth became hooked on the thrill of flying when she was just 12. Her father, Robert, a pilot, helped her lift the plane from the runway and into the clouds. Sporting a pair of rainbow leopard print sunglasses and balancing on her dad’s knee, she fell in love with the sky.

Obituary: Michael "Bird" Burden

Michael Burden, 64, of Athens, died Nov. 25, 2025. The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Cedar Shoals High School, with Pastor Arthur Hubbard serving as eulogist. Interment followed in the Burden Family Cemetery.

Oglethorpe County Library displays part of Gary Doster’s historical postcard collection

Gary Doster has more than 11,000 postcards in his possession. But not just any postcards.  “I have the largest collection of pre-1920 Georgia picture postcards ever,” he said. “There’s no way in the world anybody could duplicate or outdo this collection I’ve got here.

Fishing options limited around county

Fishing in Oglethorpe County is popular, but it isn’t always the easiest task — unless you know private pond owners.    “There’s not a lot of public opportunity (to fish) in Oglethorpe County,” said local guide Brandon Colquitt, who grew up in Lexington and now lives in Sandy Cross.
